You can hear the rumbling in the distance; it's that sound we all hear around this time of year. NAB '08 is upon us. Although things will be very different this year -- it'll be strange crossing the threshold of the South Hall, Lower Level, walking down the steps onto the show floor and NOT feeling the crush of the crowds that have somehow already descended upon the Avid and Apple booths. No more battles between Avid Xpress Pro and Final Cut Pro, no more will I hear the din of theater presentations raging, speakers pointed at one another across the aisles. Honestly, I'm not quite sure what to expect. But I do know it will be different, very different!
So, in the absence of Avid and Apple, what are we to expect? Well, I can tell you what's going on with my clients. This year, Automatic Duck and Imagineer Systems will be there in full force. I'll post more separately for Imagineer Systems, but in the meantime, here's a preview of what you'll see from the Duck:

New at NAB 2008: Pro Import FCP 2.0 and Pro Export FCP 4.0
At NAB 2008, Automatic Duck (www.automaticduck.com), the creators of timeline integration software for digital media artists, will announce two newly enhanced versions of the company’s flagship Timeline Integration solutions for Final Cut Pro users – Pro Import FCP 2.0 and Pro Export FCP 4.0.
What’s New in Pro Import FCP 2.0:

What’s New in Pro Export FCP 4.0:
Pro Export FCP 4.0 adds significant improvements to a number of key workflows for customers. Here is a sneak peak at some of the new features:
Improvements to the Final Cut Pro to Avid Workflow
• The ability to convert Final Cut Pro media into Avid media files;
• 24fps support;
• Conversion of many FCP effects and parameters into Avid effects, such as Picture-In-Picture.
Improvements to the Final Cut Pro to Pro Tools Workflow
• The ability to export an AAF file linking to external media files;
• The ability to include video track for viewing picture.
Improvements to the Final Cut Pro to Quantel Workflow
• The inclusion of more effects data from Final Cut Pro for import into next generation iQ and eQ systems.
